Technical Software Business Development Representative

Location: Minneapolis, MN; Houston, TX; Salem, NH; Emeryville, CA

The ideal candidate has a strong analytical mind that understands selling technical software to business organizations and operations, likes talking with people, is quality and service oriented, and likes doing a variety of activities. This individual will report to our Chief Commercial Officer and work closely with the rest of the Business Development Team.

This individual will develop new software sales for our business software solutions by working with clients of varying sophistication to understand their business needs and challenges. This will require a good understanding of both our application software and cloud based software technical capabilities, as well as the ability to see the issues from the customer’s business perspective.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Selling the products
  • Develop and execute a sales plan to drive growth of our software products
  • Meeting monthly and quarterly revenue and activity targets
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Marketing and Product teams to optimize company sales efforts
  • Manage the full sales cycle: closing new business by qualifying and converting leads, as well as identifying opportunities for growth at existing customers
  • Consult prospects on trends and requirements to provide meaningful recommendations to our product leaders
  • Be the expert that articulates the company’s capabilities in the context of customer needs
  • Manage and lead proof of concept evaluations
  • Interact directly with prospects to address any technical questions and represent the technical expertise of the company’s development teams
  • Provide technical demonstrations of the product configured to a client’s individual use case
  • Prepare quotations for prospective clients
  • Manage technical sales related tasks as needed, such as developing sales support documents and software demonstrations
  • Attend industry conferences and events 

Education and Qualifications

  • Experience selling both application as well as cloud-based software
  • Substantial knowledge of the chemical, petrochemical or pharmaceutical industries, via prior vertical expertise or experience
  • 5-10 years of software sales or consulting experience in application software, Business Process Management, Document Management, ERP or related enterprise systems
  • Chemical, Chemical Engineering Degree/IT Degree/ Business Degree or related industry degree preferred
  • Enterprise cloud software and IT technical sales experience highly desired
  • Experience scoping, managing and executing customer pilots and Proof of Concepts
  • Passion and people skills
  • Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to travel, both national and international (up to 40%)
