This presentation explores how Artificial Intelligence can enhance HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) and PHA (Process Hazard Analysis) studies by addressing key challenges associated with the use of Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs). It highlights the difficulty of reviewing large volumes of often low-quality, scanned P&ID documents and integrating external data sources like pump specification sheets. The presentation proposes that AI technologies — such as image recognition models used within SmartPFID™ — can streamline information extraction, reduce manual effort, and ultimately improve process safety outcomes.
