Despite the widespread installation of biogas plants, the safety of these facilities has not been specifically addressed to date. There is a lack of dedicated safety standards aimed at controlling the hazards and risks associated with biogas production and scale-up because most biogas production plants are small or medium-scale, falling short of the thresholds for legislation aimed at controlling major accident hazards, such as the Seveso Directive.
In this newsletter an overview of established applicable standards like the American Petroleum Institute and NFPA are shared, along with seven steps biogas facilities can take now for risk prevention and mitigation.
Topics include:
Between 1995 and 2014, over 160 accidents have been documented in biofuel facilities, primarily involving fires, explosions, and the release of hazardous gases. These incidents underscore the urgent need for robust safety measures in the biofuels industry.
Bonus! This newsletter also includes access to 30-minute demonstration of Process Safety Office® PSMPro™ software, our powerful suite of time-saving tools for conducting quality risk analyses. Conducting process hazard analyses (PHAs) and compliance audits is crucial for identifying and assessing potential hazards, enabling effective risk mitigation. What if you could simplify the process, reduce the learning curve, and increase productivity for your team?
Have a great and safe day.
