ioMosaic and the University of Bath Win Highest Rating for Novel Methods in AI Application

Dates:

The University of Bath and ioMosaic Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) explored Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning techniques to support chemical process safety. The ioMosaic team included Director Dr John Barker and Software Team Leader Kamel Balquis. The academic team supporting the KTP with ioMosaic included Professor Özgür Şimşek, Deputy Head of Department of Computer Science and Head of the AI and Machine Learning Research Group at the University of Bath; and Professors Semali Perera and John Chew, both from the Department of Chemical Engineering.

As a direct result of the team's success, Innovate UK awarded the KTP ‘Outstanding’ ― the highest rating ― for novel methods in AI application in the company's process of safety evaluation. The latest innovative product developed from the KTP allows ioMosaic to identify safety concerns for chemical engineers in shorter timeframes and at reduced cost.

"At ioMosaic we are specialised in process safety management and process safety consultancy. One of our day-to-day jobs is to look at the engineering diagrams and make sure that we consider all the possible safety concerns that we might have. The KTP allowed us to enhance the proficiency and the efficiency of reading those diagrams so that we can do our job faster and produce a safer world for everyone."

― Kamel Balquis, Software Team Leader, ioMosaic
